The four main swimming stoke blog entery #10
Learning four basic strokes commonly used in competitive as well as in fitness swimming will give your swimming a new dimension. Every stroke is effective in a way it selectively exercises different muscles and thus has strong points adding to the general gain of strength and stamina.
The fourth stroke is the freestyle also called the front crawl, the fastest of all swim strokes, and characterized by effective arm movements, and flutter kick. There are two critical areas that swimmers should pay the most attention to if speed is to be obtained, these are body position and breathing patterns.
The backstroke is somewhat similar to freestyle swimming with a flutter kick but while on your back. It’s easier and there’s no interruption in breathing but the proper usage of arms and relaxation of the body is important.
The breaststroke is slower than most swimming styles but very energy efficient and achieve this through the frog style leg movement and an arm pull. Coordination of its limbs is important here, as well as the tangent of the frequency of the movement of the limbs that enable swimmers to slide on the surface of the water.
Last, stroke type: Butterfly is considered the difficult and fast one which demands strong dolphin kick and smooth arm-fashion. Perhaps the most complex element of this move is the perfect timing and coordination, but the butterfly is a great way for a complete body workout.
Many swimmers would agree that this is not about racing, or already being fast, but about how to become a better swimmer, physically but also mentally, and getting a healthy routine. As a result, consistent practice in these four strokes makes workouts diverse, engaging, and effective at achieving evenly trained muscles, to the swimmers of all levels.

I have always enjoyed swimming throughout my life. I learned at a very young age and never looked back. My parents tried to convince me to join a swim team when I was in Highschool and younger because they saw the potential. However, I never ended up joining a team. I swim in my backyard and for recovery purpose. My favorite stroke is freestyle for sure, I'm not the best at the others. Thank you for the share.
ReplyDeleteI remember all of these techniques I learned when I was a kid because I was put in swimming courses. I kind of forgot about it because I don't swim anymore but it was definitely fun and does require endurance.
ReplyDeleteHello Ireland, I also love swimming, but I find myself always losing to my sister in a race. I will definitely try the fourth stroke next time.
ReplyDeleteHi Ireland!! I used to love swimming as a kid! I spent every childhood summer at the city pools learning with other kids. My favorite stroke is definitely the butterfly, mainly because of it's name, but also you to really concentrate on your bodies movements.
